Charlottesville Habitat for Humanity gets $29M to support manufactured housing

Habitat for Humanity in Charlottesville was awarded over $29 million in funding by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to preserve and revitalize manufactured housing communities, particularly the Southwood Mobile Home Park. The grant will support redevelopment, including transforming part of the community into mixed-income housing while preserving existing units and improving infrastructure.

The funds will support the redevelopment of the Southwood Community, bringing infrastructure improvements and community amenities to enhance residents' lives.

Draft congressional budget bills allocate millions for local projects and organizations

Draft bills passed by the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee propose over $3 million in funding for local projects in Charlottesville and Albemarle County efforts, focusing on affordable housing, infrastructure, and youth engagement. The largest allocation, $1.25 million, will be used to convert a commercial building on Cherry Ave. into mixed-use affordable housing. In addition, $1.074 million will support Habitat’s construction of 11 affordable units in the Southwood community.
